Cavern Training
« on: October 08, 2008, 10:17:09 AM »
Hi

Anybody interested in meeting up to help a newbie work up a bit of experience in the cavern environment Saturday 18th/Sunday 19th October?

After completing the Cavern course I am finding it difficult to stay involved. I have an Intro Course coming up in November and would like to get a few hours under my belt.

I appreciate that its difficult to plan anything with the amount of rain we have been having but some of you might know a site that is suitable.

I will be in a local lake (Ballyscanlon) this weekend to get some new gear configured and practice some finning techniques...I have been told by the locals that its bottomless  ??? hopefully I will make it out ok :)

Not sure where you are located but I am in cork and if you need a buddy to just tag along to ease your mind let me know i might even by up in clare getting some exploring in over the next few wkends but its all weather dependant as the caves are all flooded at the moment. Ask Arthur Conrad he may know of a place that has a cavern for practising in around the place. Hope this helps you out.

Guys

Swell forecast for Doolin Point looks promising from Friday on

http://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/DoolinPoint.1to3.shtml

I'm going there on Friday afternoon and try to stay as long as weather permits.
Hopefully Frank can make it so we could take some more fancy shots;)
Speaking of which, would be great to have shots with more divers in( read: handling more strobes...;)
I want to try to push Mermaid's a little bit further but there are plenty other stuff there for cave diver on any level.

Anyone interested? That might be last chance to dive Hell, Reef caves and Mermaid's Hole this year.

Sell your wives, your kids and your dogs and come!

cheers

That does look like excellent weather for it Artur.

Roger and I are already committed on another dive at the weekend, and the weather is looking good for that too. Sorry, but I would love to be there.

Well after tearing the place apart I havnt a clue where is it! I can only guess that I might of lent it to someone & havnt gotten it back.Ill keep looking tho.

I'll PM you my contact details again in case you cant find them Brendan.

Oh and for anyone cave diving etc & looking for those expensive climbing helmets, look in an army surplus store first, somethimes they get em ex military but one or two of the straps have been cut, get new straps like climbing webbing and fix it yourself, cheap & it'll do just fine.

Folks,

Seems to be a fair amount of expensive cave/ dive helmets being brandished.
Cheep, functional and simple is good:
http://www.brighton-canoes.co.uk/productpages/helmets/ap2000.htm
also easy to cut holes in for mounting lights.

Just in passing,
J.
