I'm using one of these 1200 lumen torches from China. Only €100 including delivery... bargain.  :)

There's a lot of reports on Yorkshire Divers about them flooding so took some advice from there for sealing it up better and tightening it - the front bezel was ridiculously loose when I checked and the lanyard knot just pulled apart. They don't seem to get checked at the factory so you definately need to give it a good inspection and sealing yourself. So far had it on 7 dives, max depth 42m, going great. The beam off it is excellent, similar to the Cathx handhelds. From the reports on YD I don't expect it to have a very long life so wouldn't be relying on it too much.

I also got their 900 lumen torch which as been around a while. Only taken this on one dive yet but meant to be more reliable as all the bugs have been ironed out. It was a narrower beam but still a very good torch for €60 delivered.

Student-friendly options worth looking at!  :D Both are rechargeable too.

Its the unexpected blow that gets me every time. I would have understood if the comment had come from you Stewie or Baza, Pat even or Alan or Fintan, Andy, McMickan, the Kilmore lads, Rez, McShine, The Skipper etc etc etc but Mike? I thought he at least had some class. I used to like him. Still look on the bright side. I have his khaki hat!

just got a light-for-me torch! its a 7xre 5h... head is very bulbous, but light is very good. nice color and very bright. will let you know how it is in the water after next week!

Build quality is excellent, and looks very solid and rugged!

Apart from size of the head, looks great!

Ditto - they're a bit of a strange shape, but they seem to be getting good reviews.

I have the light for me 4 tec. It's an excellent light. Compact, well built, 5 hour battery. The light is very bright with a tight beam. So far very impressed.

Might help if you give a rough budget Tom? And are you looking for canister/umbilical or a hand held unit?
