Artur Kozlowski Presentation
« on: October 13, 2009, 01:07:40 PM »
I'm very pleased to announce details of the second of a series of talks hosted by Dublin University SAC (DUSAC) in and around the area of technical diving.

Artur Kozlowski - Cave Diving in Ireland - 8pm Wed 4th November
Robert Emmet Theatre (Room 2037)
Arts Building, Trinity College Dublin

For more information on the location of the talks within Trinity see: http://www.tcd.ie/Maps/map.php

Artur was born in Poland in 1977 and came to Ireland in 2006 with 13 warm water dives under the belt. He started learning cave diving with Welsh cave diving instructor Martyn Farr in 2007. In 2008 Artur explored Pollatoomary and recorded the deepest underwater cave dive in Ireland and Britain, at -103m. Since that time his main interest has shifted to largely unexplored, massive underwater cave systems underlying the Gort Lowlands in Co. Clare. In 2009 he started using a rebreather which resulted in spectacular discoveries in Gort area -  including exploring 4km of new underwater passages with Jim Warny. At the same time Artur is actively sustaining traditional style cave diving exploration – dry caving with sidemount sump diving, mostly in challenging caves in the north of the country. Artur is  a PADI and DSAT Tec instructor.

The shows are free and open to the public so feel free to bring along any friends etc. with an interest in diving. We will be accepting donations on the night and all proceeds will go to the Irish Cave Rescue Organisation - ICRO.

Cheers, Stephen

Hmmm...what time is the game? I can make it quick and we can all watch it in the pub...:)
But on a more serious note  :sarcasm: , all Liverpool's and whoever the Liverpool is playing with's fans are now officially excused !
Anyway most pictures shown during the talk will be dark  ::) and the video we made yesterday in Gort , I tell you , is pretty dark too.... :devilban:... I don't even know why it feels my heart with joy... >:D

Oh, and Happy Haloween or whatever you people say or do in this part of the world... ??? Where I come from people used to visit their dead ( I mean their graves ;) with flowers and candles but personally I always preferred to hang out and drink with my friends on some abandoned graveyards....so I suppose it was some sort of half way between East and West... :buddies: :demon:

cheers

Jonny, I was a Liverpool fan between 1975-1989 and I tell ya it'll be less scary coming to Arturs lecture than seeing Benitez lie in the bed that he's made for himself in Lyon :flame:

Folks - it couldn't be easier to find the location. If you're coming in the Nassau St/Dawson St side entrance - just take the first building entrance on your right and the Robert Emmet theatre is the very first lecture theatre on your right. The name is also on the orange coloured double doors. I'm sure there will be a few diver-looking types milling about outside.

If anyone is driving in then I reckon your best bet is Setanta Car Park just off Molesworth Street: http://www.dublinks.com/maps/Setanta-Car-Park

Jaysus I feel a bit ropey this morning.  :buddies:

It was a great turnout last night. Artur gave a terrific overview of whats happening in cave diving in Ireland. Sorry about all the "technical" hiccups with the laptop. None of that was Artur's fault. In a bid to record the event as a podcast we landed a MacBook on Artur at the last minute and of course none of us had ever used a MacBook before.

I'll see if what we got by way of a podcast was any good and publish a location where it can be downloaded from later (once I figure out where it is). Also the event was filmed by a good old video camera for Polish internet TV so I'll find out how to get access to that footage as well.

Also thanks for all the contributions to the ICRO - Irish Cave Rescue Organisation. I'll count up the donations later and let ye know how much it came to. Your generosity is much appreciated.

A great crowd went across the road to O'Neills for a few bevvies afterwards and kept the questions flying at Artur. Artur was an absolute star, a lot of people told me it was great to get a chance to talk to him and get more info on the cave diving.

O'Neills closed and seeing that my return ticket on the DART was now defunct a group of us including our brave Polish explorer headed for Doyles. Of course I was assured by a couple of clubmates that this would be one drink and then a shared taxi back to Dun Laoghaire. Well it might have been one drink but they never mentioned the dancing and I poured myself in at about 3.30am this morning. I also seem to remember ending up paying for the taxi  :-\

So great night - now I'm going to crawl under my desk for a kip.

G'night  :P

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately I missed the presentation :( I was really looking forward to it, but then it turned out it collided with something else I had already planned for that evening and so I couldn't go...

Would you please send us the link to the podcast and the video material whenever they become available? Thanks!

I will try to make it for the next talk. I was hoping not only to listen to Artur's talk but also to meet you guys in person. Artur - any chance you do the talk again, for those of us who couldn't attend? ;)

Thanks!
Best Regards,
mike

Hi
we drove up last night to meet the man in person, he made Aude very happy, conversation on the way home was all about her Hero and when can we go diving in these black wholes again. Looks like we're of to Cong or Doolin again soon. We were  very impressed with the turn out, great to see such an intrest in what is concidered a sport for the mad!Artur you,ve convinced me never to buy a Mac :devilban: well done.  I'd love to get you down to Limerick to give the show to a few intrested divers in the mid west. O Neill's was great sorry we had to leave so early  :( . Looked like the craic was only starting as we left  :buddies:

Really entertaining talk given by Artur last night, its rekindled my lust to jam my oversized frame into a cave again, although judging by Arturs description probably not the ones he is having problems fitting in!  Shame I couldnt have stayed for the a few beevies Stephen, although seems you drank enough for a few of us  ;D
Cheers,
Graham
