I would plan to use the VR3 to get me out if the vision went down during an OC bailout.
- If you have pre-cut slates, you need to stick closely to them, with a VR3 it gives you a bit more flexibility on a bailout ascent if your vision goes down.
You can speed up your ascent if needed to get shallow.
- On ascent, you may have to miss stops in the deeper section of the ascent, a secondary computer will at least track you during a quicker ascent.
- With bailout slates you will have set switch depth for your different OC mixes. On a secondary computer it will allow you to change gas deeper or
shallower depending on available gases and still track this on your deco profile.
- If you have other divers around you they may have different gases on them that you haven't factored into you bailout slates, with a secondary computer
you will be able to account for this if needed unless the diving group are using some kind of gas matching strategy and this isn't an issue.
This is not an exact science. I would have a set of tables for the deeper dives just for reference, but I would plan to carry out any bailout ascent on a computer. You would likely miss some deco either using tables or a secondary computer during an OC bailout. At least with the computer you would have a bit of a better idea of what you are missing.
