Nikon D5000
« on: August 10, 2010, 11:45:43 PM »
I bought a Nikon D5000 about 6 months ago. For the past 4 months, I have searched high up and low down for a camera housing with a depth rating of 90 mtrs.  Could somebody point me in the right direction.
Regards
Peter

Thanks for the preply
I have been in contact with Cameras Underwater. A lot of places do a ploycarbonate housing by Ikelite. The depth rating is 60 mtrs. I advised that I had my compact camera, which has a depth rating of 40 mtrs, to 55 mtrs. I was informed that it 60 mtrs was the max. Hence, I will keep looking as I ned to buy right first time. the problem is that the D5000 has not been in production that long.  No doubt as time goes on, someone will bring out a deep housing for it.

Hi,

without being the bearer of bad news... I spoke to a friend that runs a camera shop, and he does alot of underwater housings and diving accessories!

He doesnt think that you will find a suibtable product for some time yet!

I hope he is wrong for your sake  :spin:

Thanks for the reply.
I have been advised that there is an Italian company who manufacture an aluminium housing for the D5000. I am now just waiting on the contact details. Like evrything in life thats hard to get, its not cheap @ £2600.00
Having said that, providing it does not flood or loose it, it would last a life time.

Well Ding
Thanks for the reply. Just a couple of questions:
What depth have you had down to and where did you get it?
What strobe are you using?
Is it a 5000 that you have?
Did the buttons stick?

Whats the noise like when you whack the ISO up on the D5000?

Do you really want to spend £5000 on a UW set up?

Had it to 80m on the Phesant...worked fine. I got the housing and strobe from cameras underwater, good service and advice.

Well Ding
That's great. If the Ikelite housing lets me get photos down to 80 Mtrs, it will do me lovely. I will sort it out in the morning.
Anything deeper than this, I will leave with Bazza.
Many thanks for the info.
Regards
Peter.
