thanks for that.

I have my back up torch added a bit like that but it doesnt clip to the bungee, I do have the rubber tubing added to the harness to hold the torch flush, the same as in the picture

hi guys , just to clear a few points that seemed to have been created from my post  :flame:

1) i didnt mention IBCD and have never heard of a diver getting it from puttin helium in his/her suit (this in my understanding is an issue off off gassing and arrises from gas switching to a higher density/PpN2 mix) an issue for another thread  :sarcasm:

2) i dont carry a suit inflation bottle or air as a diving gas when diving helium so I take the lowest 02 mix available (also the lowest gas used on the dive )(when diving with air/weak nitrox mix as a back gas i use that for suit inflation)

3)i dont use chemical patchs for active re warming so the high pp02 wont get me that way

4) divers shouldnt smoke  :worms:

5) i keep all my primarys together so if my primary reg is gone i know my primary inflation is gone .( a way to keep a mental track of which is which and off what post)(i can always quickly disconnect a whip and attach it to my primary if required (.

6) the simple moving of the whip to the other post sorted me and my set up out and was learned either here or on YD where it seems everyone and their dog dives twinsets or thinks they can :spin:

i hope i havnt steped on anyones toes here as i have learnt loads from askin questions here and following threads .

just tryin to help .

P.S. that is my set up and how i dive , not saying that its the right way but its my way at the moment

if my lips are movin im liein

The more I looked at the set up, the less happy I was about have non identical first stages. I saw that deep blue dive are still doing the Mk17 with R395 for £159 less 10% so in effect they are £144 which i thought was too good an offer to refuse. Ordered todau so should arrive in by next week if their previous service is anything to go by.

I can have the Mk10 cleaned and use for a stage

Good call, I have mk17 on my twins; been hassle free and work well in the cold and silty environments.

That's a great price too. I'm tempted myself for another stage reg!

Yep. Agree totally with Andy. I use mk17 too. Great for cold water. Have s600 on the primary and r395 on secondary. No problems!

If I could buy again I'd probably get apeks. I love my SP regs but I can't get them serviced locally which is a real pita.

You can't go wrong with either having said that.

As far as I'm aware the only issue with cold water was the MK 25. I've never known the MK17's to be a problem, but the lowest I've dived is 6c. Should be fine though as they're environmentally sealed.

I was all set to buy MK25 until I read about the free flow probs, although ironically, I know of guys that use them ice diving and have no problems at all.  :-\

from what I've been told the only reason Scupapro regs "scubaflow" is when they havent been serviced properly... if there serviced by a trainer technican there fine...

by the way I'm an Apeks user and wont dive any other make of regulator.

What's a trainer technician?

I had a Scubapro Mk20/G250 for close on 10 years. Great reg and never let me down. Did some racy dives on it which I probably wouldn't repeat now.

The piston first stage is capable of delivering approx 4 times the amount of gas per minute compared to a diaphragm reg. Thats more than enough gas flow to freeze a reg if the flow gets going as a result of the reg being not properly adjusted.

I converted to all Apeks because I wanted consistency, a single brand and regs that I could service in a ditch with a spoon if I needed to. I found the scubapros a bit fiddly in that regard.

Note that when I service an Apeks reg properly it will freeflow when the purge button is pressed and stop when I turn the flow control to minimum. Thats how sensitive it is. I usually detune it just a tad and hence increase the WOB a bit for the rolls off the boat and smacking the water.

I don't really believe that one reg freeflows more than others due to design. Probably just needs adjusting to deal with specific conditions.

By the way the Mk17 is a diaphragm design fundamentally similar to the Apeks DS4 also a diaphragm design.

Mk20/25 quite different as a piston design.

Just cannot agree with you on that one.

The great regs we have now are great, and let's be fair, quite a few (most?) are, because all the shit ones were taken off the market and now are not even making it there in the first place. That's shit as in bad design, not bad manufacture.
