Lads/Laddies,
I bought a skateboard helmet in smyths for 13 euro,s size samll. I pulled out the aerofoam nice fit and it is perfect for cave diving. I drilled few holes in the side used few tie wraps to secure lights and hey presto ready to cave dive.

Just said i put it out there as you can pay alot for something so simple and cheap.

just wondering if anyone has anything further to add to this thread?

I am waiting for a go pro hero 2 to arrive that I plan on mounting on a helmet and adding a torch either side of it.

The aim is to video what I dive as opposed to diving to make video if that makes sense.

I was thinking of removing the lining from an old hurling helmet or getting kayaking helmet and taking the lining out of that.

i dont really want to spend a fortune on getting a purpose made caving helmet as for what I want it doesnt have to have any sort of protection rating

I cut out the foam and cradle from a climbing helmet to make mine. Had to drill out the rivets that were holding in the webbing and replace them with stainless steel ones from halfords. Works a treat, frogmans held on with cable ties and I have a bit of 50mm plumbing pipe with a slot cut out that can hold a larger torch temporarily.

In case that is too much hassle

Great for a helmet mount as I like the magnetic switch, easy on/off no worries about flooding it. Bright enough as well although newer torches are brighter for the same money.

BTW did you have any issues with the insulation in the helmet causing buoyancy?

I am wondering if I would have to remove any insulation to eliminate "floaty head syndrom"

this one from argos seems like it could be ok

http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/3334814/Trail/searchtext%3EHELMET.htm

doesnt appear to have any insulation inside, just straps to keep it off your head

PLus I get some cool stickers "allowing you to personalise it for extra street cred."
